While upgrading to Cumulative Update 1 for System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP1 (lets not get into the ConfigMgr release naming conventions) the installer received an error attempting to “stop services”.

Reviewing the logs in closer detail shows the culprit service is “tmlisten”. This service belongs to Trend Micro Virus Scanner and for obvious security reasons the CU1 installer does not have the ability to stop the antivirus service. You will need to manually stop the service which likely requires a Trend Antivirus administrative password before you can continue.

Once the service is manually stopped you should be able to continue with the installation.
